For American Express Charge, you have until the closing of the current billing cycle to pay the previous months bill.. So for instance:
Cycle Start End

#2 05/03/01 06/02/01

Your bill for billing cycle #1 is not considered late, as long as it is
POSTED to you account by
06/02/01..
These are my billing dates.. I have yet to pay my #1 bill, and will do so next week
