Not only is there a limit in some places it is apparent to the person accepting the card. A couple of years ago as a Platinum (now Centurion) I was paying for lunch in Glasgow's One Devonshire Gardens. I could see a read out on the machine which showed my credit limit at that time was £15000. Lunch was £48 so it wasn't an issue.......
