I see no reason to draw unnecessary attention to the situation. I would go to BOS, walk up to a skycap or an agent, and plop my bag down, and say I'm checking in for my flight. Only if the skycap or the agent raised an issue would I then worry about a Plan B. (My Plan B likely would be to just move along and check in with someone else -- a different agent or skycap.)
