AS is actually being quite smart here, by not allowing cheap ways to add EQM doing something like PDX-STS-LAX-SEA-OGG at the same cost as PDX-OGG, and thus devaluing their status and loyalty program. While there's the occasional way to do PDX-SEA-LAX-DCA or SEA-PDX-BOS and add some MR love, I think it's a good thing for them (in terms of keeping their costs low and not making everyone and their uncle able to get high status on an airline), if bad for mileage running.
