At what point do you put gas in your rental car? Well, I think there's a metal cover you open, and then you have to twist off this cap and push the nozzle into the opening. I suppose you *could* try putting it in at a different point (like the passenger front seat), but that might get the rental-car company upset.

Avis is a leader in trying to police the practice of just driving a few miles (probably for business) without putting in any more gas because the needle's at F. Am sure the suspicion and complaints about getting a not-quite-full tank really went up along with gas prices. A leisure renter is probably going to drive more than 75 miles and have to fill it up close to the top, all on his own dime. Whereas the guy before him might have been a hurried biz traveler who didn't have to drive far and had the company paying for all of it.
