I could have caught a train or driven to alternative airports I guess, but I thought, "What the heck, at least it's a few more pennies to BA... and a few more status credits to go towards my QF lifetime gold".
That makes sense- after all this is FT.
By the way- if you need to get out of BLQ in the future have your travel agent check the airports in VCE, VRN, MXP, and LIN- they are all close enough to BLQ by train, car, etc to make it easily possible- and sometimes the fares can be VERY different (i.e. on a long haul LH you can have a variation of up to 1000 EUR in Business depending on if a Z class fare is open out of VRN for example but not VCE...).
