Re-Issued Card/New Account Number
I learned today that there was an attempt to make a fraudulent charge to my Amex card. Consequently, Amex insisted that they immediately cancel the card and re-issue a new card with a different account number. I'm quite sad about this because I've had the same Amex card number for 20 years. Oh well, I'll just have to memorize a new number.
I've been a Membership Miles/Rewards member since the program's inception. I charge absolutely everything to the card wherever it's accepted.
My new card is scheduled to arrive tomorrow by Fedex, so fortunately I only missed out on 20 MR points today.
Has anyone had this experience and was the transition transparent? Specifically, were you immediately given credit for your MR points on your new card and were your existing MR points transferred to the new account?
If anyone is interested to know the details of the attempted fraud while no actual charge was sent through, I'll be happy to post it. I'm not offering it now cause it's not pertinent to the discussion, but it does show how one business has excellent measures in place to combat credit card fraud.
