Several moths ago an AMEX Plat rep told me that they will be coming out with a new card to supercede the Plat card shortly but that all the details haven't been worked out yet!
This was presumably due in part to the tarnished rep of Plat due to massive proliferation of VISA/MC Plat cards.

On the other hand, an Amex Plat rep once told me several years ago that soon a spouse would get a free secondary Plat card. As we know, this never happened, but they did offer, as I recall, a reduced rate Gold Card to be associated with the primary Plat account if the user(s) wanted it!

Often advice is worth its cost- buy not on this FT board of course!
