So, it almost seems like the FAs do what they want, more or less.
In the last 18 months or so - all to LHR or HKG (except one to YVR) I have only seen them ask for choices based on status once. Now it is possible that everyone in Biz had status, but I doubt it.
I have been fortunate to have always received my choice but they don;t follow the status first rule often.
On a related note: The new setup for the fast meal on the London flights (ie: you get a choice of one of the main meals) is excellent. Too bad they wouldn't serve the entire cabin this way so the commotion would stop earlier and there would be more time for sleeping.
