I've never made a new level after the first leg of a 2-leg trip, but I would guess you wouldn't get the credit for the new level until you complete the MAD-AGS trip.
Do you consider seven days to be "a couple"? When the medallion updates were made on Saturdays, if you flew after some point Friday night or Saturday morning, you would not receive your new medallion status until the following Saturday evening: seven days later.
