* a lower class opened up in the time it took you to move from the QF site to the BA site (quite possible)
* BA and QF manage their fares separately (presumably not done under the JSA, which I am not familiar with?)
* BA and QF separately manage fare bucket availability on each others' flights (quite possible but is this allowed under the JSA?).
I had the QF and BA sites open at the same time, so it wouldn't be the first option. I don't know if this particular route was done under JSA or not (the direct MEL-LHR-MEL flights) but I have to say I was pretty surprised.
