I suggest to get a prepaid calling card or long distance service like Onesuite. Minimum amount to sign up is $10 with no expiration as long as you use it every 6 months. You can continue using it in U.K. when you get back if you still have balance left.

Onesuite account can also be use as VoIP service aside from being a calling card.
