The one time this happened to me, after the lights came back on, I "confessed" to an FA that I could not "comply with their instructions to follow along in the printed safety instruction card", because I could not see in the dark.

Well, it backfired, because after a brief (and intense) conversation between FAs, they announced that they would re-run the safety video ... this time with the lights on.
