I'm pretty sure Gold Card members, no matter if you have "Rewards Plus" or not, gets same customer service that everyone else gets, so you are still just "one of the masses" with a little higher spending limit. Platinum Card members get their own customer service (and pay for it).
May be part of their retructuring?
I cannot stand voicemail, AMEX is one of the worst. I really renjoy the fact that when I call DC I get someone real after the first ring 90% of the time.
