IIRC, the honorary consul-general for S'pore in Miami, Stephen(?) Green, was a former US Amb to S'pore, Clinton-era. Dunno if he's a native Floridan. S'pore has a gaggle of such honorary consular representations around the US. I think MIA is fairly recent and in fact Green might be the first appointee to that post.
