Travelling in Europe you NEED either a VISA or MASTERCARD (=Eurocard). Acceptance of American Express (and even worse) Diners is to low.

Lufthansa even has a combined VISA-Eurocard. Eurocard is the (european) partner of Mastercard and bears both Logos (EC and MC).
