I disagree with the other poster and would suggest that the pronunciation of the letter "A" in Spanish is more like the "A" sound in "MAMA" it is an "AHH" sound. LAN sounds like "WAN" (pale) or "WAND" ---- exactly like the name "LON" as in Lon Chaney or "WONTON". On the other hand, oddly enough if you listen to the pre-recorded announcements onboard LAN flights they pronounce it "LON" when the announcement is in Spanish and as the other poster said "LAN" as in "LANDING" when in English. I have no idea why that is. I hope you are not more confused than ever.
Maybe a linguist here can be more clear.
