$100 a day is decent, even in expensive places like Europe, if staying at hostels, taking public transport, etc.
May be pushing it in New Zealand, where there are tons of photo opportunities.
Have you considered a trip in Africa, its easy to find adventure safaris for less than $100 a day with Intrepid/Gap/Acacia/etc.
