That's ridiculous! I don't ever open the huge bottles when they're available (I don't drink hard liquor), but I would have made a point of drinking something from the "in-room bar" in this case, so I could dispute my bill with Amb services.
The raided/off-limits minibar is one of my pet peeves, and I've experienced "limited" minibars in a few hotels in the past few months:
- IC Tahiti normally has an empty minibar, and you have to order from a menu and have items delivered (and charged) to your room. For RAs, the fridge is pre-filled with a few cans of soda and beer, everything else will be chargeable.
- IC Seoul (Grand) removes the .375ml bottles from the minibar (soft drinks, beer and a few miniatures remain).
- IC Hanoi removes the .375ml bottles from the minibar, and there are no miniatures at all. Only soft drinks and beer.
