Update -- I got in. I walked up to the counter, said hello, and handed the lounge agent my AA PLT card and my FI boarding pass. She placed my boarding pass to the infrared scanner, it beeped, and then she handed me back my boarding pass / card, said "thank you," and pointed me towards the lounge.
Lucky......you got a duff agent with a dodgy scanner.
You chanced your luck and got in..........nothing to be proud about.
