There's no could be wrong about it. You were wrong. AA 757s in coach have been 3x3 since they acquired the first models in the early 80s. The same is true of UA, DL, NW, US, and CO.
The only airline I remember having 2x3 on a 757 I believe was Royal Brunei at one point for their J class. For a period AC had a 2x3 configuration as J on their A320s and back in the 60s I believe a couple of the legacies (CO and UA) had 2x3 in coach on 707s and DC8s.
