Other Flyertalkers say CDG is terrible. I've heard less bad things about FRA, though no one seems to have good things to say about it either.
I've reached the point where I've basically decided to take only nonstop flights into Europe, even if I have to fly outside my alliance. If no nonstop is available, I'll fly to the nearest city and take a train to my destination.
So my question for everyone is, which European airports (if any) are good for transfers? And are my experiences at LHR, AMS, and HEL the norm, or have I just had exceptionally bad luck?
Granted it only involved short to medium-haul flights, but I connected through MUC on my way from LHR to ESB last month and was amazed with how easy it was, as simple if not more so then a US domestic connection. I'm not sure how the airport handles long haul connections, but it seemed amazingly well run to me. Granted there was one use of a bus at a gate that could of easily handled the plane but still.
