I definitely agree with this in the context of Marriott. Marriott has always treated me with respect (both at the hotels and in terms of customer service/problem resolution), and I intend to do the same in return by not abusing the discount codes. That's why I'd like to learn a bit more about some of them before booking.
If this were an airline, my moral threshold might be different. "Respect" isn't in their vocabulary, and I'd probably counter all of their garbage fees by clawing onto whatever discount was made available to me.
