Most supermarkets would take a very dim view of that - unless it was being given to a registered charity. Too many opportunities for abuse which takes us back to BA being strict.
I've been upgraded by BA people but that was all purely on a commercial (cargo contracts) or customer service basis (helping the CSD out, same crew there and back).
