Packing it well is a good idea but when I referenced the thread about the broken notebook it was because he packaged it well. Security then opened it, presumably to see what it was, and didn't repack it at all they just put it on top & it ended up broken. Packing it well doesn't really mean anything unless they repack it the same way when they open & check your bag.
