I'm looking for some advice for a cheap hotel to stay at in Las Vegas. I'll be arriving on the 21st of December, and leaving probably on the 22nd (might change that to the 23rd).

I've never been to Vegas before and I don't quite trust the prices for hotels that I see. I want to be sure that I don't get stung by any hidden fees, don't end up in a dodgy area or too far away from the attractions. A hostel would also be fine, but the reviews indicate they're not in the nicest areas.

I'd also like suggestions for attractions to see, as well as advice on how long I should spend in Vegas (I'm in the US for 2 weeks total, also have SFO, LAX and SAN on my itinerary so far). I usually don't drink or gamble, so while I might spend ~$USD 20 in a casino, I won't be spending days in them.
