I am currently Gold with Delta and my girlfriend is Silver. On Sunday ( 11/29) she had a family member pass away and needed to get back to SLC from Flordia. I explained the situation and inquired about a bereavement fare and was told that it was not eligible. I realize this was the Sunday after Thanksgiving, but I could not find any details on what determines if you can get this fare or not. In the end, it resulted in the use of 60,000 miles for a one-way from from SRQ-SLC. I was just curious if it is common to not be able to get a bereavement fare because of certain dates, etc.
