Check the baggage rules of the carrier you are on. I would think it has a stipualation against such items(valuables, electronics, fragiles)like every carrier I have ever seen or dealt with. Of course it doesn't prohibit them but it does say they would not be responsible for any damage to these items.
I was reading a thread earlier about a broken notebook in checked baggage & there was a lot of good info about this.
