There are two numbers on a M&M CC as I pointed out in my post above. It use to be just the CC card number which you could use to earn miles but a year ago they introduced a card with two numbers, CC and M&M. The M&M number differs from the M&M number that is printed on the plain M&M card (by plain I mean without CC function not status!). Both M&M numbers, the one on the plain card and the one on the CC do reflect your status and both do work for earning miles. I don't know why they do differ though.
