No, this area is owned by Network Rail - not sure what the leasing arrangement was with the airlines (or BAA) but lack of use caused the closure in the end, as it did with the check-in area above the Gatwick Express platforms at Victoria. Shops are not just more profitable, but actually more useful for the vast majority of people passing through Paddington.

When the check-in system was in operation, what happened to the luggage at the Heathrow end, was it all unloaded at Heathrow Central or was baggage for T4 stored separately, alternatively was there a luggage drop off point the train went to after dropping off pax? Did any SkyTeam airlines ever participate in this scheme?
I think all the bags were put into secure wheeled containers and taken off at Heathrow Central.
