I just returned from BKK on the evening departure.

When you check in they will give you a lounge invite that is good at any TG Royal Orchid or Royal Silk lounge. I was not directed to any lounge in particular. The plane was at the farthest F gate. If you do use the main lounge leave yourself plenty of time for the trek out to the gate. I decided to just go to the E concourse lounge. There are two and they are right across the corridor from each other. Facing the end of the concourse I first went to the one on the right (I think that is the Orchid one). I asked them if that lounge was "better" than the one across the hall. They told me that the other one had more space and was probably a little better. So that's where I went. I agree the food there was not great, but there was plenty of room and decent amenities. Certainly much much nicer than the AF/Sky lounge I used at BKK a couple of weeks before. Since you are so well-fed on the plane I don't worry so much about the lounge food.

They will also give you a CIP fast track immigration/security invite. Those things are worth their weight in gold. No lines, no waiting.

I enjoyed my flights very much. The food and AVOD are excellent. On the 8 PM flight there were several empty seats in C, including the one next to me. Service was excellent as well. Probably among my best ever flying experiences. I stayed awake since we were arriving late evening in Doha. We were on one of the newer 777s I think.

On my DOH-JFK leg we were on the aircraft marked AA which I think may have been the first 777 QR received. Several of the seats had non-working AVOD. Luckily mine was working but they had to reset the system a couple of times during the flight. For a 13 hour flight the time seemed to pass rather slowly and there were two unruly little children in the row ahead of me. Their parents didn't seem interested in discipline or control. But again food and service were top notch. I did sleep for a little while. I asked and they were able to round up another pillow for me which made sleeping a little easier. Breakfast was served shortly after takeoff (which was nearly 1 hour late). The "indulgence" menu was available any time you wanted it during the flight. Again the food was really good. Probably the best airplane food I have had.
