My fax usage is very much zero nowadays but when I first set up a number of years ago, I found these guys to be very reasonable. Its purely email to fax from what I remember, I had an 0207 number and I think the cost was 6p or something similar, per page.
These are definitely worth checking out, especially if you don't send a lot as they don't bill you monthly, it's done on PAYG.
I agree on Interfax. I use their services for my business (we use faxes so infrequently that it made more sense to set it up this way) have never had a problem with the service and they were able to set me up with an 02 (NSW) area code fax number in a matter of hours.
FWIW It costs $25/month but most of that is line rental and we get 600 pages/month free to send, although we never come close to utlising that.
