Easy. You turn east and head to your alternate airport (usually OAK) and guess what? You have a 180 mph tailwind and land with PLENTY of fuel. With todays ETOPS requirements, you are always in reach of an alternate. The requirement is even made so that you reach your destination or alternate on
ONE engine. Hence the ETOPS!! Why are you so critical?
