In fairness, I think this is an unfair post in terms of the comparison being made. I could personally post more than 234 stays (my own) on which Marriott has not provided an upgrade to a suite (which is what they are talking about on the Starwood thread).
I am still hoping that Marriott will decide to try and match Starwood so I can come back to Marriott on a regular basis. But it is clearly not presently their intention to do so. They have yielded the arena of "significant suite upgrades for Platinum more than 50% of the time" to Starwood. In fact, in my experience (and based on a review of this board) they have yielded the market on "significant suite upgrades more than *5*% of the time" to Starwood (and others).
I am *not* a Marriott basher. In fact, I am not even very unhappy with Marriott. (I have 1 *million* unused Marriott points, and that is far less than 1/2 of what I have earned.) I just got tired of not getting the upgrades I felt were available elsewhere.
DJ, let me ask it another way (not a challenge to you, just a lawyer to lawyer inquiry). Do you think that Marriott Platinums have a "reasonable expectation" that, when they arrive at a Marriott hotel, they will receive an upgrade to a suite at least 1/2 the time? Unfortunately, I don't. (I used to, 10 years ago, but not recently.)
