Sydney ended up being one of those places visited and checked off the list. I wasn't nearly as impressed with Sydney as I was with Brisbane. Yeah, I know, I'm crazy. Well I guess if you take the tour of the Opera House, walk across the Bridge and then catch a sunset ferry you're going to be surrounded by tourists.

I've lived in Sydney for 24 of my 28 years and to be honest with the exception of when I worked in the CBD I rarely go there, it is as you say too touristy.
Did you spend all of your time in the city?
As for Brisbane
thadocta is right the casino building is beautiful (one of the nicest buildings in Australia) but I think spending 7 days there you would realise it is a large provincial town.
