If you choose ANA, I suggest asking for either 24B/C/H/J (exit row seats with tons of legroom) or a D/G seat (aisle seats in the center section). ANA's 777s are set up with three blocks of three seats going across the cabin, so if you end up on one of the side blocks, you will either have to climb over two people or have two people climbing over you. UA's 747s are not any better in this regard (3-4-3 layout) but you can at least choose your seats online when booking an award flight on UA metal -- if it's on ANA metal, you will have to call United reservations to get your seats assigned or changed.
