I am new to Delta and Skymiles, coming from being a longtime Northwest Worldperks Platinum.
One thing I am trying to understand is the rules and waivers for change fees. In the past, I would frequently change my tickets (date, time, routing, etc) and it seemed that Northwest would waive any change fees. Note that I am talking about paid tickets here (not award tickets), sometimes business class, but often discounted coach.
Sometime this year, they started telling me that as a Platinum, I only get 2 free changes for the year, and then I have to pay a change fee thereafter.
When I look at the program rules only, these two free waivers only apply to Award tickets. Does anyone know if they also are supposed to apply to paid tickets? It seems to be my experience in how they are being applied.
And then my last question - the preliminary 2010 Skymiles program information available at:
https://www.delta.com/skymiles/about...es_program.jsp
indicates in the row labeled "Waived Award Redeposit/Reissue Fees" that the Platinum level gets 2 waivers (per footnote 3) but that Diamond level apparently has unlimited waivers. Now again, I am trying to find out if that might mean a Diamond level also has a waiver on change fees for paid tickets.
This matters to me because I am 1,000 miles away from Diamond status and I am trying to decide whether I should trip over that wire or instead avoid it and rollover the 49K miles for next year. Unlimited changes without change fees on paid tickets is the *one thing* that would make Diamond status worthwhile for me.
