I've had problems with BNE twice, the only location for me ever to have had problems with hand luggage weight. One of the encounters was perfectly fine and bordering on amusing (the guy basically said, "Hey, sorry to inconvenience you, but take a few things out for now so that I don't get into trouble for letting you through with overweight bag"), but the more recent one was quite unpleasant.
At the second problem, the lady at check in handled it very badly. She was rude, and she tried to pressure me into putting things in my check-in bag so that it would go overweight and I'd incur excess baggage charges.
I was at the weight limit for my checked baggage, although I only had one carry-on bag so I could have had another, which I could have arranged by taking a spare small bag out of my bag and putting things in there. At the time, after being quite shocked by being talked to rather rudely by the check-in person, I didn't think about it. To be honest, I wouldn't have cared if I had to pay excess baggage if I had confidence in their baggage handling system, or if this check-in person was not so rude to me.
So, I was going to rearrange things to be within hand luggage rules, rather than putting things in my checked baggage, as I was not exactly going to risk losing some of my important items since QF had just lost my bag on a previous flight just a few days ago, and I told her this politely, which she did not even acknowledge hearing.
She also made me put the bag in the measuring rack and when it fit, she looked extremely annoyed that it did (it wasn't even a particularly large bag). I think she simply did not like me and decided to make things as difficult as possible.
I just took my books out and said, "since a reasonable amount of reading materials are allowed in addition, would be this acceptable now?" to which she grumbled and told me that I would not be allowed to board if I put them back in my cabin bag.
It was not the rules I was annoyed with (I was the one who was over the limit so I accept my liability there), but the way she handled it and mostly the way she spoke to me. There is no need for rudeness.
I have never encountered a problem at any other airport, but at BNE, it seems to happen (other people I know have had a similar thing happen at BNE).
P.S. my status is QF platinum, and I used the domestic business class check-in.
