When you break your journey in SIN, there will be some taxes to be added. That's why by having a stopover in SIN, the agent told you that ther would be an additional charge, i.e. taxes need to be paid.
Why don't you go to SQ website. Try this. C class DPS/BKK (no stop in SIN) will be quoted as USD728.
If you do DPS/SIN, stopover for couple of days, SIN/BKK, you will be quoted about USD20 more. The fares breakdown shows that the basic fares is the same as USD660, but the taxes were different, in which a stopover is higher in taxes.
