Yes StarWorld,, I did credit my CO account. I did not want to do this exactly for the reason you stated. Unfortunately if i did not put my CO number, then the agent was going to charge me for the bags. (since I would no longer be *Gold). At least thats what he told me. I did show him my *G card. He said you have to input the number for removing luggage charges.
