So far I largely like what I see.
I believe ´enhancing´ business, on the expense of the back of the plane (where I always sit!) is the way forward. It works well in particular if, like Middle-Eastern and other carriers, you have a brilliant reputation for what you do upfront, and people don´t realise that you have 10 across with little legroom elsewhere.
A few thoughts after I have had a look at the press conference: crucial to this, echoing others, is the implementation including IT, and the fares.
They explained I think what ´modernised catering´ in Premium means: the trays and cutlury are recyclable.
Savings: they were asked twice, and twice did not answer. Do they just hope? To some degree of course: they explicitly hope to catch customers from other airlines, and that they can fill, I feel, in particular the Premium Eco cabin from up- and down- grades. And as mentioned catering and staffing. But one thing they did not mention, and were not asked about, is density: I strongly suspect that pitch will be reduced at least in Voyageur, possible in Premium.
I also think that they wish, like the LCC, cheat customers into thinking that they are always the lowest: profits come from the mix of fares sold, ie average yield, not from lowest publicised fare. They will be able, I guess, to blind people to the fact that the fare you get is actually higher than the lowest potentially available. Fair enough, and with the 10euro cooling off, not a bad idea.
They were asked and avoided the question about FB Elites: yes, this was about AF product, not FB, but if I have to sit in the back with less catering, less pitch etc, either fares have to be clearly lower, or I expect more as Elite/+.
Final question for now: of course no word on Regional, CityJet etc. I often sit more minutes on those planes from the UK than AF mainline medium-haul. No change there?
