I booked a room at the Marriott, NY Financial District once, the rate showed up as $99. It turned out the rate was $999 which was some code for "do not sell any rooms", or something like that - explained by the front desk supervisor who initially refused to honor the $99 rate, and offered rack rate of $199.
I would not expect a hotel to honor a $9 rate (or some such) as it is obvious it is an error, but I felt an offered rate of $99 was in order and should be honored.
After showing a printout of the email confirmation with the $99 rate the manager very reluctantly agreed to honor it. Had he done so with a smile up front he would have gained a lot more good will from this platinum guest.
