While I see your point, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that it's a bad deal without knowing the circumstance.

2. If the OP is taking about flying F and being reaccommodated in F in the event of an IRROP, I'm pretty sure it's a destination large enough that either CO or UA fly to it. (if anyone can name a destination that US uses an F-equipped a/c that both CO and UA don't fly to - I'll renege on this)
