I'm new to this forum but wanted to say our family stayed in 2 rooms in August on points and had a great time at the hotel. We liked the location, easy drive to Kona, possible to drive to the volcano in one day. We liked having the King and Queen shopping and dining a few minute walk. Merrimans Cafe had very good food and was reasonable. There is only one restaurant at the Marriott. The food wasn't bad. My husband and I had breakfast at the take out cafe (good coffee) and our sons had the buffet breakfast since they are more into choice and quantity. I won't pay $20 for breakfast when I'm happy with a bagel but my younger son considered a child and was only $11 and my 17 year old proabably got his money's worth. My only comment on dining is that the birds continually harass you. You can't leave your plate unattended. Drove me nuts! We did have poolside service which was friendly and prompt.

The grounds were very pretty and the hotel is on a very pretty beach. Facing the water to the left you will see sea turtles - evveryday. We walked to the Hilton everyday for exercise (rocky so you need sneakers). You can see the dolphin's at the Hilton dolphin encounter. Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable using pool at the Hilton as a non-guest. There is no beach at the Hilton, only pools and a manmade lagoon. I preferred the Marriot since the atmosphere was more laid back.

Overall, the staff at the Marriott was pleasant. We are Silver members so we weren't expecting any real perks. Our room request was honored, 2 adjoining rooms, 1 King and 2 queens. We had garden view room but you could see the ocean from the lanai. They didn't charge us the service fee for the second room. I would agree that it would be nice to have an adult only pool - the infinity.

Overall, I wouldn't consider this a luxury resort. But it is a very nice place to stay, nice beach, family friendly, and a good base to explore the island.
