I usually stay at The Reniassance Amsterdam and know from two separate experiences that all the rooms on the outside of one wall are directly above a particularly noisy street, which is obviously much worse if you are on the lower floors. The 3rd time I was assigned one of those rooms I didn't even leave reception to have a look, just explained that I already knew that room was going to be too loud so could I have an inside room. They had no problems sorting that out and, even better, then found on each of my next half-a-dozen visits that I was pre-assigned an inside corner room [overlooking what could broadly be described as the 'inner courtyard']. I'd never been given a room on the club floor but I don't mind the extra walk to get breakfast.
Then, two nights ago when I checked in, and after reading more of this forum, I asked specifically if I could be upgraded to a suite. After a minute or so of tapping away on the keyboard I was given a MASSIVE suite on the club floor. Dining table to seat 6, bar, two bathrooms, two balconys.
I was VERY impressed and will definitely try asking for that room again next week! The worst that can happen, presumably, is to go back to an inside room on a lower floor . . .
