I've just come home from 6 nights at the Denver CY Downtown.

There is good news and bad news...

The hotel is a converted historic property. The lobby is large and nicely decorated and our room (a spacious corner upgrade) had a beautiful high embossed tin ceiling and a large bathroom. The location was great - truly downtown with lots of restaurants and shopping right outside the front door or a short walk away. Because it was terribly hot we often took advantage of the free bus that runs up and down the 16th Street Mall literally every minute.

The front desk staff and manager were great at working out a complicated billing and the other employees we met were also pleasant and helpful.

But...

The air conditioning system is very odd. It cycles on and off and keeps an OK temperature when you're up and walking around. But at night you alternately sweat (when the cycle's off) or freeze when cold air blows right on the bed. (Any woman who's had hot flashes will understand the feeling exactly!) I was told that, despite frequent complaints, there's nothing that can be done about this - only minimal modifications can be made to the building, given it's historic designation. Understood - but we found that waking up four or five times a night to throw covers off or pull them back on again was most unpleasant.

The desk chair in our room was covered in black stains - really filthy. It was replaced when I mentioned it.

Last, but far from least, the bed frame had three thickish metal pieces on either side to hold the mattress. I knocked my ankle on one of them, got a cut and a swollen ankle and have been in pain for three days now. When I examined the bedframe I noticed that the pieces that stick out are VERY sharp on the edges - why they don't put rubber caps on them I can't figure out. I mentioned this to the front desk manager and she reported back apologetically that "The bedframes are standard Marriott issue and (they) can't change them". I've never noticed the bedframes in any other Marriott room I've been in but this doesn't make sense to me.

Anyone out there had a similar experience? Should I just let this go or??? Any comments or advice?

I've had very similar experiences at many CYs all over the country concerning the bed frame. Never have had an injury but can EASILY see how it could happen. I've come close a couple of times but just nicked my ankle.
