Now I know only AA flights count towards towards the challenge. If I book this route under the booking class 'O', will that get me 10000 points I require? somewhere around 7336 points. NRT-LAX-JFK-NRT = 14671 miles, as you said, only AA flights get you the ponts needed for the challenge.

The aadvantage section on aa.com shows the points per mile you get for the different fare classes
O gets you .5 EQP/mi

FWIW, O from North Americ to Latin America would get you no points.
