#1 is not an IT issue. This is a broad-reaching policy decision by DL to exclude Int'l flights from Medallion benefits, to price PMUs out of any range of sanity (compared to competitors) and to not have a competitive SWU offering, etc... The number of complaint threads about non-rev upgrades, Int'l award availability, and the like bear witness to this.
There may be an IT component to it all. But this is mostly DL's decision to not offer Int'l perks at any level. I can understand that (to some limited extent) for the trans-oceanic segments, but DL has enough intra-region flights in Asia and other areas that the policy is nothing more than some obsessive protectionism at the expense of customer retention. Otherwise it makes no sense that NYC-LAX would be upgradeable but NRT-HKG isn't.
I was not relating IT and any International experience, more the recent differences in the actual products. This is to be expected with the integration of DL and NW, but across the "Old" Delta it is becoming more noticable as the fleet modifications, introduction of 757's, etc. have taken place. I am a firm believer that to the greatest extend possible my ATL-JNB, CVG-CDG, JFK-BRU, etc...
