Whenever I book via Expedia, my AAdvantage number is already on file and I can select exit row seats while I am booking the ticket. As soon as the purchase is confirmed on Expedia I log on to AA.com, the reservation is already in my profile and I can request upgrades. If I have to make changes that is when it becomes a little more problematic, but I am fortunate that so far I have not had to make too many changes. Even when I do, I reserach my options either on AA.com or expedia then make the changes on Expedia. The ticket exchange fees are the same. Two weeks after the trip has taken place I go to Busines ExtrAA and manually request credit. Any sooner and the manual request gets rejected. So this way I get cash back, ThankYou points and BizExtrAA points. It takes a little of record keeping, but I think it maximizes my reward opportunities.
