hard to do AA mileage runs from the middle of the country?

I just managed to book a MR AUS-LAX-BOS-SFO-DFW-AUS and it costed me about $500 or so (really surprised me). Is it usually quite hard to book MR's from the middle of the country? I don't think there's any way fare rules allow connections to the east coast via LAX and even AUS-ORD-SFO is way more expensive than AUS-DFW-SFO (both in Q).

is MRing harder for you guys in the middle since you'd have to position yourself to one of the coasts and fly to the other coast and back and then reposition yourself back to the middle?

I guess one of the pluses of being on a coast is you're really close to alot of places but you're far from the other coast whereas in the central, you're equally far from both coasts...
